The Sulfaro story began in the early 1960’s when classically trained furniture maker and company founder, the late Nunzio Sulfaro, arrived in Melbourne, having immigrated from his native Italy. It was at this time that Nunzio and his wife, Francesca, began producing elegant European style furniture for the Melbourne retail market, which was much sought after at the time.
Handcrafted, hand-built furniture proved to be far superior and a great deal more popular than the rather bland furniture on offer back then. The company grew quickly and, over the years, has set the standard for quality, design and comfort.
Sulfaro is proudly Australian made with Australian components and materials utilised whenever and wherever possible. The Sulfaro team of Artisans and Tradespeople provide a level of expertise that is inter-generational, having been passed down from father to son. It’s the combination of traditional European furniture making with modern Australian technology. Current Managing Director, Santo Sulfaro, a Master Craftsman in his own right, now ensures that the same impeccable standards – on design, quality and comfort – are maintained much as they were over 60 year’s ago.
